Experts state that the knee popping sound and experience happens when the either the vastus lateralis and vastus medialis get weaker or stronger, the reacting pushing and pulling of these two parts of the knee results in the popping effect when walking or going down a flight of stairs. To successfully get rid of the knee popping the exercise that men and women who experience it should be something similar to this. The idea is to strengthen the quadriceps muscles by contracting the legs isometric muscles. Here’s how it goes:

Sit on the ground, put legs out in front and find a good back support.

Rotate the legs so that the toes point forward doing the twelve o’clock position.

Go and flex the quadriceps that keeps on popping, to know that it is truly working and truly contracting you should see the muscles on the top of your thigh move.

Go and try to reach the vastus medialis to help strengthen it before each contraction.

Repeat the process of contracting and flexing the quadriceps for 10 times at least once or twice a day for as long as you still hear or feel your legs with the knee popping.
