Women Stomach Pain
Women stomach pain usually has something to do with reproductive system problems. Both sexes suffer from stomach pains but when a woman gets an excruciating tummy attack, it is worth looking into reproductive health problems, especially if other symptoms are exhibited. Women abdominal pain is more common than abdominal pain in men. Dysmenorrhea, or menstrual cramps, is one of the most common causes of women stomach pain. The pain usually occurs on the lower abdomen, on the pelvic part. Minor cases can be treated with painkillers, a hot water bottle or heating pad, and certain lying positions. However, if the pain is too much to handle during menstruation, the woman should consult her ob-gyn because there could be underlying problems in unbearable women stomach pain.
Women Stomach Pain and Its causes
Intermenstrual or mid-cycle pain is also a common source of women stomach pain. Also called Mittelschmerz, mid-cycle pain occurs when the ovary releases an egg. In some females, particularly the young ones, the pain could be as sharp at the pain in appendicitis. The pain may span between 4-8 hours before subsiding. Women stomach pain like Mittelschmerz affects some women but not all. This is because some women have a pelvic pouch that has more than the average amount of fluid. Mild painkillers or hot water bottles will remedy this problem.
Another cause of women stomach pain, although not very common, is ectopic pregnancy. This is an abnormal kind of pregnancy that occurs outside the uterus of the woman (normally in the fallopian tubes). In this case, the baby will definitely have no chances of survival and the mother has to undergo surgery. Abdominal pain is certainly intense. In some cases, vaginal bleeding occurs. Aside from surgery, women with ectopic pregnancy may be asked to take certain medications.
Upper left abdominal pain and upper right abdomen pain are usually not associated with women stomach pain that’s related to reproductive health problems, although these pains should be addressed by the doctor too. Upper right abdomen pain, for instance, is associated with gallstones. Gallstones can also induce nausea and vomiting. Mononucleosis also causes pain in the upper right section on the abdomen. Abdominal pain may be recurring, as well as fever and sore throat. Even if these are not reproductive health problems that cause women stomach pain, you should still consult the doctor for help.
One type of women stomach pain that you should be wary of is the pelvic inflammatory disease or (PID). Aside from lower abdominal pain, PID is also accompanied with foul-smelling vaginal discharge, pain during sexual intercourse, and bleeding even when you don’t have period. In some cases, fever may also be present. This has to be checked by the doctor because PID is a sign that an infection – brought about by a sexually transmitted disease – is spreading to the fallopian tubes and the other parts of the female reproductive system. The doctor may prescribe antibiotics, like doxycycline, to kill the infection but before that, you have to go through a series of test to identify the specific type of infection.
Any stomach pain, especially on the lower abdomen, could be female reproductive health concern. Identifying other symptoms will help you and your doctor address the problem.
